Briana Banks is an icon of the adult entertainment industry. Born in Munich, Germany, Briana moved to Simi Valley just outside of Los Angeles at seven years old. In 1999, she launched a career that has spanned over 400 unforgettable scenes. Her stunning beauty coupled with an unquenchable thirst for sex built Briana’s hardcore fan base and caught the attention of the industry. Vivid signed her to an exclusive contract in 2001 and in June of that same year Briana became both AVN’s cover model and the Penthouse Pet of the month. Along with Jenna Jameson, Briana became the most published adult magazine model ever. She also went on to become the longest Vivid contract star, staying with the company eight years and starring in some of their best selling and critically acclaimed titles. In 2009, Briana was inducted into AVN’s Hall Of Fame, along with XRCO’s Hall Of Fame in 2016.
After a five-year hiatus, Briana announced her return in December 2015. Sexier and more hardcore than ever, Briana Banks is back to retain her title as the queen of porn.
Rock Confidential spent a few minutes with Briana to talk about her phenomenal career and her plans for the future.
How are things going Briana? It’s great to catch up with you!
Thank you so much. It’s going great! I’m glad to be back doing what I love and back in touch with all my amazing fans.
After five long years out of the industry, how does it feel to be back?
At first it was scary. Everything has changed a lot. I’m adjusting quickly though. Being out of the spotlight for that long, you get a little shy around all the constant attention and questions about where have you been and what were you doing.
You were one of the most popular Vivid Girls of all time. You were on posters and calendars in every mall in America. How do you remember that period of your life?
I signed with Vivid in 2001 – the same month I graced the covers of Penthouse and AVN. Everywhere I went I was on the newsstand and being asked for autographs and traveling all over the country featuring. It was like a dream come true after growing up without money or popularity as a kid.
Did having that kind of success cause problems with other performers or even competition between other Vivid Girls?
Of course I’d be lying if I said all the Vivid girls got along. Seeing as I was the longest ever running Vivid girl of eight years, I saw them come and go. I always tried to get along with everyone but some girls don’t wanna be friends so I just went with the flow and avoided all the drama.
How would you describe your personality when you were younger, around high school age?
Shy. I moved out of home at 14, got emancipated at 16 and got custody of my sister at 18. I grew up quick. I was always working my part time pizza job and going to school so I didn’t have many friends.
Do you remember the first time you saw porn or any adult material? What was your initial reaction?
I never saw a porn until the day I was on set about to shoot. I was so nervous I drove away three times. I had only been with one guy and always had sex with the lights off.
When did you first become comfortable with your sexuality?
After about six scenes I got a little more comfortable and started enjoying my new found sexual side I never knew existed.
How do you remember your very first year in adult?
As a flurry of shooting. I went under the name Mirage and shot almost every day. It was so fun. Being called pretty and being made up was all so new to me.
Did you have any misconceptions about the porn industry before you started?
No. I knew nothing about it.
What attracts you to your porn career now? Is that different than what it would have been 10 years ago?
Yes, it’s totally different. It’s a lot more work now for less money. Even my two years as Mirage shooting gonzo before signing with Vivid were more high budget and landing a box cover was always part of the thrill.
Do you have long-term goals now that you’re back or are you just playing it by ear? What else would you like to do?
I’d like to direct in the future. I’m still learning all the changes so right now I’m just playing it by ear.
What are your thoughts on tube sites and piracy?
Pay for your porn. Companies don’t put as much money into porn now because of people stealing it and selling it dirt cheap. It causes us all to pay the price.
What kind of music do you listen to? Who are some of your favorite artists?
Everything from Lana Del Rey to Korn to Prodigy! I like everything but country to be honest.
What was the last concert you went to? What was your first concert?
First concert was Dave Matthews. Last was Pink.
What was the first album you bought with your own money when you were younger?
What are you up to next?
I’m working on building a site to sell my new action figures and other merchandise as well as shooting enough stuff to start a website for my fans!
What would you like to say to your fans to wrap things up?
Thank you all so much for your love and support throughout my career and welcoming me back with open arms and hearts!
